Madekwe was raised in a mixed ethnic family. Her father is Nigerian and Swiss and the mother of her is English. She was a student at The Brit School when she was 14. She was a student of acting in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. She performed in various stage productions during her college days, such as King Henry V and Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe got her start in acting by starring in a movie titled Storm Damage. Since then Madekwe's appearance in Teachers and Doctors. Madekwe's first film appearance was Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream (2007), alongside Colin Farrell. After this success, Madekwe appeared as Elisha in her role on the BBC Three drama pilot West 10 LDN and was featured for six seasons Trexx as well as Flipside. The ITV2 series Secret Diary of a Call Girl featured her in 2008 as Bambi. Madekwe starred in the comedy film How to Lose Friends & Affect People. She also appeared as a character in Little Sweet Thing, by Roy Williams, and Flight Path which was written composed by David Watson.
Madekwe had her official US debut in the 2009 Drama series The Beautiful Life, which was only broadcast in the US on The CW before being cancelled. Ashley Davenport, a character in ABC's Revenge drama series was cast to play Ashley Davenport. Following her appearance as a regular on the first two seasons, it was announced in May 2013 that she would depart the series following her appearance on the pilot episode from the 3rd season. On the show Salem, she played Tituba in 2014 through the year 2016. Madekwe got married to her actor boyfriend Iddo goldberg on June 2012. Both of them have been in Secret Diary of a Call Girl. They also played as a couple in Salem.

Ashley Leggat, an actress who was twice nominated for the Gemini Award, hails from the large Hamilton family. Her family included the parents Roy and Patty along with four of their older brothers: Brett, Todd and Bram twins, Rob, and Brett. Ashley's family, which is all athletes, play in the summer months and play hockey in winters. Ashley was unable to walk, but was able to dance. As a result, as she grew older when she was two, she began to learn about Baby Ballet. Ashley was hooked on dance since that time. Ashley performed in competitive tap, jazz and ballet at the top divisions. She was the top soloist in major competitions such as International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance which were all given to Ashley.
